Example from the field

Chandrani Prasad Verma — Known across the country as its first female mining engineer. She is now employed as principal scientist with the Central Institute of Mining and Fuel Research in Nagpur. She got admission to a diploma programme in mining with some difficulty as the management was reluctant to offer a seat to a woman. Later, for a B.Tech. degree in mining, Chandrani had to fight for admission in the court and got admission as a 'special case'. Finally, in 2001, she got a job at CSIR as a project fellow. Chandrani also has a Ph.D. in rock mechanics and numerical modelling.
