Example from the field

Jessie Jayaraj — From the small town of Kottayam in Kerala, she set out on a mission to spread awareness about natural fibres against plastic by promoting natural products. What started in a small room with one tailor's help has become an enterprise in Tondiarpet, where bags, files and stationery products are stitched. She takes orders for products made of cotton, bamboo fibre and jute as an alternative to synthetic products, and says corporate companies play an important role in spreading awareness against non-biodegradable products. Her unit now hires around 40 tailors who work with her six days a week, and she does everything from meeting clients and taking orders to design, sales and delivery. The mother of two built her venture with a very small investment and is now aiming at export orders.
